General Discussion in the lobby of Building 298
As usual, we began our meeting in the lobby so we could watch for people to
arrive. For those of you who don't know, B298 is a secure building so we
must let people in as they come. If you come to the meeting after 7:00PM you
probably won't get in.
The first topic that came up was the increase in mailing list activity. The
activity risen quite a bit in the last two or three weeks. This is a good
thing. Bob reported an approximate 40% increase in mail list subscribers. We
welcome the newcomers!
Adam brought in a Red Hat 5.0 boot disk for MCA support. The hope was that
Richard Harrison would be bringing his computer. It turns out that this
avenue had already been tried. The people who provide this kernel no longer
support it. Furthermore, they didn't compile CD-ROM support into the kernel,
so it was useless for this situation anyway. Good thing Richard didn't bring
his PC. Adam or Bob can provide the URL where they got this boot image if
anyone is interested.
There seems to be some problems with the power supply for KLUG's PC. When
voltage is applied, nothing happens. Adam will bring in others to try.
KLUG will have a table in the upcoming computer show. We discussed who might
be willing to man that table sometime between 10AM and 4PM. Since the meeting,
Bob has also called for volunteers via this mailing list. This is a great
opportunity to further the cause of Linux before a select audience.
At 6:40 we went upstairs to the room.
