Personal Gripe Clarification (was KLUG Meeting Minutes)
I post this clarification at some risk that more words will muddy my intentions
even further. Please understand that I aired my "gripe" in hopes of getting
more communication flowing about projects that seem to be going on "behind the
seems". The use of the word "upset" to describe my feelings is probably a bit
strong. Off the top of my head, the only word that comes close might be
"disappointed", but that even seems harsh. My intentions in this matter are only
the best. I wasn't trying to stir up trouble.
I have taken the liberty to combine excerpts from Bruce, Bob's and Scott's
messages below and comment where I feel it is necessary.
Chris.

>First off, i would like to complement you on getting the minutes out on >time
... Much better than i did :)
Thanks Scott. I was trying to make up for missing them altogether last time I
was supposed to do them.
Scott:
>Then, on to your gripe. Its definitely well founded. I guess at the time i
>didnt think about talking it over with anyone. i knew how to write the
>program, and i didnt think anyone would really be interested.
>Thats not to say im a good programmer :P.. its definitely a hack, and
>not a nice program. so im going to attach the source to this. If you
>want to, Im sure you could clean it up a lot.. or just plain do things
>in a better way. Or add functionality, or change what it does, or
>whatever.
I wasn't intending to challenge your skills as a programmer, or to even
challenge that you were the person to do the job. On the contrary, I think you
are precisely the person for the job, since you have been administrating the
mailing list. I merely wanted to point out that it would have been nice to have
some sort of "official" notice that the project was beginning. I'm not talking
about formalities here. You know, maybe while where sitting in the lobby,
someone says, So-and-so thought it would be good to do such-and-such and person
A thinks it would be good for person B to do it because... etc."

These statements really concern me the most. Guys, I wasn't trying to put blame
on anyone, demand accountability, or coerce apologies. I was just griping. I
guess I was thinking that maybe it's time to put some time into our meetings for
project discussions. Perhaps in the first few minutes we can throw out ideas,
report project status, say who's working on what, etc. Then, these things could
be reported in the minutes and posted to the list.
Bob:
>... It may not be appropriate to have everyone inform everyone of what
>they're doing all the time. We can see how a more open way of conducting
>ourselves works out, and adjust it further, if need be.
At this stage in the development of the group, more communication is better than
less. All the projects are small and short. We can all get a handle on
everything that's going on. When the group is huge and has several long term
projects going on, the work can be summarized into status updates. For now, if
we're working on something related to the group, let's talk about it early and
often.
