Core Dump

Anyone here know what else you can done to a core dump to find
out where in a program teh program crashed to check for a
possible buffer overflow or what possible info gdb can give you??
I can get the program that dump'ed it with -c and can look at the
stack at the time of the dump just want to get as much info about
teh state of the program when it dies. Thanks for any information
anyone can pass back to me...Thanks
