hmm, i dunno, one time i had some problems with PPP, i could log in fine but
then i guess i must have configured resolv.conf wrong because i could only
telnet to numeric ip addresses. try telneting to a numeric ip and see what
happens.

i had this EXACT same problem with a devlopmental kernel, in 2.0.34 pppd worked
fine, then with the new kernel  i could login then 30 seconds later i would be
disconnected, turns out it was a problem with an incompatible pppd version i had
to upgrade.

i also do a whois on dmci.net and the last dns address doesn't match, probably
doesn't matter though.

probably doesn't help any, but oh well.
