Meeting July 21st - Accomplish Things While You're Gone! An Introduction to CRON
No, not TRON, CRON! More specifically, CROND, a daemon that runs statements (scripts)
on your computer at any time... while you're asleep or away. You may define any
time pattern you like for running anything in the background. Attend our midsummer
meeting, and see how you can use this versatile tool.
Robert G. Brown is a software developer who has contributed effort and
time to help build KLUG. Having worked with Unix systems for over 10 years,
he's using Linux for a variety of tasks, from building portable software and
tools for further development to maintaining this web site. Mr. Brown uses
CROND so his Linux system can take care of itself better, freeing him to
run about doing other things. While he may fall behind schedule, routine
processing on his LINUX system does not, thanks to CROND.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.
During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:
"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."
As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
