Alright. first off, if everyone but me thinks we should have anywhere from
three to twenty different lists, thats fine. Or, even if the majority of a
quarum feels this way, I have no problem with that. You seemed to think
that i was refusing to accept such an idea. This is not the case, as my
only concern is keeping things from becomeing so fragmented that no one
actually reads all the posted material.
To avoid this fragmentation, my sugegstion is to break down the messages
bases (be they mailing lists, or newsgroups) only as far as our current
size, and diversity of topics now requires. It may very well be that in
the future i will agree that we need more lists, but this will only be
because at that point it time, the need arises. Right now i dont see much
more diversity than 'announcements', 'questions and answers', and as i
said before 'projects'.

To me the table of contents seemed to be a nice overview of the features
of our current mailing list software, and i did not see it as
content-free. Anyway, that doesnt really matter. If you suggest deciding
what to do, and then choosing some software to meet those needs,
that is one way to attack the problem (well, not so much a problem, but
whatever it is we're talking about). It seems to me that we should
look into doing something using the software that is currently running the
mailing list. If its not broke, dont fix it.
But, of course, someone could argue that it is infact broken, what with
all the people calling it 'spam' and things :).. Even so, i dont think the
current software is inadequate, and certainly can be used for whatever we
decide to do.
Failing all that.. i just thought people might want to know what sort of
functionality we had in our mailinglist software.
