Meeting August 11th - A Domain of Your Own

Those names to the right of the "@" sign on email addresses, and the first
part of web site URLs, are called "Domain Names". There are some real advantages
to obtaining an Internet domain, whether you're looking to get involved in
networking, reach new levels of flexibility, or simply wish a distinctive
identification on the Internet.
This is your chance to see what it takes to get a domain, and what it means.
Adam Williams will guide us through the steps required, and what it means,
both from legal and technical points of view.
Adam is a network administrator based in Grand Rapids, but the network he
deals with is all over Michigan, with a couple of hundred workstations,
running Linux and other Operating Systems. Not only does he deal with domain
issues at work, but he is also the owner of the domain "whitemice.org".
Recently married and ensconced as a KLUG officer (indepedent events), Adam
has been a regular contributor to technical discussions on our main mailing
list, both presenting and solving some of the most challenging networking
and configuration problems.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.

During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:

"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."

As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
