Meeting September 15 - Getting the most using Multitasking in Linux.
One of the great things about Linux is multitasking. You might be surprised
by the number of ways it is supported. I consider the multiuser capability
of Linux to be an extension of multitasking, so I will give an overview of the
multiuser features, and ways to accommodate multiple simultaneous users.
Multitasking can be accomplished in several ways. Linux and most Unix variants
use a different and more powerful means of multitasking than Microsoft Windows,
and a glimpse will be provided into the differences and what they mean to you.
Different environments require different means of handling input/output from the
many tasks that can be running, and there is software that can help you achieve
your console, serial terminal, or X based multitasking potential.
Mike List is a native of Kalamazoo, MI, and knows a fair amount about multitasking
from parenting four of his own kids and a foster son, who help keep things from
getting too boring. Other KLUG members are amused (so he thinks) at his accounts
of non-Linux adventures.
Mike also write a column for new users, "Clueless at the Prompt" featured
semi-regularly in the Linux Gazette.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.
During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:
"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."
As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
