Meeting September 22 - John Beimler
-Integrating Linux into a heterogeneous computing environment
John Beimler will discuss his experience with using a Linux system as a server
to support a number of combined network services on a LAN, including file and
print sharing. Emphasis will be on connecting with Microsoft Windows operating
systems, and Macintoshes will be briefly covered.
John Beimler is currently employed as a contract worker at Pharmacia &
Upjohn. He has had seventeen years of programming experience, the last three
being in a corporate environment. He has worked on a diverse number of systems
from the Apple Newton to Sun Enterprise servers. He has been using Linux since 0.9
kernels (since mid-1992, in numbers by which the world reckons time!).

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.
During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:
"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."
As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
