Problems getting server to work

Okay, I've done what this page
http://members.bellatlantic.net/~mrdennis/mgetty.html says to do put am
getting some weird things happening.  In my log file it tells me "bad
username [/AutoPPP/]".  Also when I try to do the proxyarp it tells me
"cannot determin ethernet address for proxy ARP".  I'm kinda stumped
here.  Maybe mgetty is not autodetecting ppp or something is screwed up
in my scripts.  Although I can log on as a different user in the
terminal from a dialin Win95 machine then start pppd but I'm just local
and I can't ping anything else on my lan.

Any help would be appriciated
