I've never setup PPP with the control panel, so I'm not sure about that one.
I've also never tried diald with Redhat, but I use PPP without any problems.

I don't remember how old of a copy of BSware you have, but there have
been three updates to the RPM package since Redhat 5.1 was released.
According to Redhat's errata page, there are even bugs in RPM ver 2.5.3
(the latest version).
Redhat has some commands to run (creates some links) and a file to
edit that will fix the problem. For details see:
