October 13 Meeting- Correction

October 6 will not be repeated.

Adam Williams

-Beginner Linux Users Class- Basic Linux Functions
An informative and helpful class for those people who are new to
operating
a Linux system. Experience the difference of Linux, vs. some other
operating systems that you may have encountered. The Linux OS presents
the user with a different set of concepts and commands, such as
filesystems
and mounting, which differs from the concept of a "drive".

Adam covers some basic commands that you need to manage files and
directories in filesystems. Include such commands as: ls, rm, mv, cp
chmod,
chgrp, chown and find. Also, the conventions that apply to common
filesystem directories (the purpose of /etc, /usr, /var, and /home and
so on
will be discussed. If you are a new Linux user, or you would like to
see
some of the unique features Linux has to offer, this is the class for
you!

Adam Williams is a network administrator based in Grand Rapids, but the
network he
deals with is all over Michigan, with a couple of hundred workstations,
running Linux and other Operating Systems. Not only does he deal with
domain
issues at work, but he is also the owner of the domain "whitemice.org".
Recently married and ensconced as a KLUG officer (indepedent events),
Adam
has been a regular contributor to technical discussions on our main
mailing
list, both presenting and solving some of the most challenging
networking
and configuration problems.

Sorry for any confusion.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify
you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the
process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.

During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a
voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:

"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."

As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve
a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware
of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
