next time you may want to just log to a different virtual terminal and 'shutdown -r now' command instead of hitting reset.  I don't know what you could do about the other probs.

I got X Windows to work but had a few problems after I changed the settings to get a better resolution/more colors from my video card.  After startx the screen went blank, and when I couldn't get it back so I reset the system and when I tried to get back into Linux it forced a check and said my systems had erros and wanted the root password.  I gave it then nothing happened.  I tried the rescue that came with Red Hat 5.0 but after I inserted the supplemental disk nothing happened.  Is there a command to run to clean up this mess that I created?
