Minutes from Klug Meeting 10/13/98
With 11 people in attendance at last night's meeting, we were pleased to
welcome 5 visitors, 3 from Grand Rapids, and one from Lansing! The
meeting
was called to order at 6:35 p.m.. There was no old business to
discuss,
but as for new business there was quite a bit, starting with a lot of
interest in the 50/50 raffle. We sold approximately 25 tickets last
night
alone! Then we moved on to discuss the newest Survey form that is due
out
on the website any time now. Many attendees critiqued the form and
filled
it out at the meeting. Be looking for it on the web site.
At 7:05 Adam got started on his topic, the Linux file system. He went
over
what a file system is and put it into very understandable terms. He
also
covered the basic layout of the file system tree and some simple file
system
related commands. Adam also spoke about Links. His notes should be
available on the web-site soon. There was about 45 minutes of a
question
and answer period in which Adam fielded questions concerning device
drivers,
permissions, random number generator programs, TTY's serial ports, IRQ's
etc.
At 8:35 we had one final announcement about an Amateur Radio Festival
this
weekend here in Kalamazoo where our group could put out literature and
demonstrate some programs if we wanted to have table space. Anyone
interested in helping at that event is asked to contact Bob
chairman@klug.armintl.com or Brenda programdirector@klug.armintl.com
One gentleman was having trouble running an application on his linux
system,
so the crew stayed after to try and get his problem fixed. Although the
actual problem couldn't be fixed due to lack of a disk that was needed,
he
had some good ideas where to look for the problem when he left.
Hopefully
we will hear how he did on that.
