Re: PPP Bugs?
I also had problems with ppp in rh5.1.
I spent close to two weeks and still could not get it working.
one big problem it seemed to have (at least with my isp netlink) was
timing out ....if i remember correctly it does not indicate this with a
timeout message but a invalid login message.... so i set up alot of
"expect" statments with empty "sends", there are other ways of doing
this but i think this is a simple way and it lets you see how far along
you are getting in the login process
this kept mine from timing out to soon, so it could establish a serial
connection then it would run appletalk and a couple other things
and...after a while it would time out this time it would indicate
timeout sending lcp packets ....i guess my isp sends lcp packets a
little slow so i increased the max lcp to 70 and then 700 and it would
sit and send and recieve but i didn't have a complete connection i could
not even ping the dns servers on netlink.
I think the problem may be in the dynamic allocating of ip address which
there are ways to capture and set the ip address when loging in but i
have read very little on this and am not sure how it is done....I also
hope it is rh5.1 and not my lack of understanding.
there are other things involved but most of these are disscussed in many
help texts. there are quite a few on the redhat cd .
