For sound under Redhat, run the "sndconfig" program to configure it.
Also, I recommend upgrading to Redhat 5.2 for your sound card.
They have upgraded all the sound drivers to the new OSS drivers
which support Soundblaster AWE much better.
As far as CDROM, it sounds like it's not in the kernel for some reason?
I know it's in the standard Redhat kernel. Are you running a custom kernel?
