Re: No such file or directory, and other folly

Well, here we go... After a few attempts installing with a swap file
smaller than the recommended... running setup from an xterm did the
trick. While Star Division did include the glibc libraries (they're
stuffed in the .tar file), and good instructions on installing them,
the READMEs did not mention xterm. I suppose that this is one of those
experience things (I believe the addage is 'experience is the best
teacher.') So what I have learned (and I raise this to invoke
corrections to my conclusions, if any) is that activity in an xterm
can/does have an impact on an XWindows session.

As far as performance, (graciously acknowledging Bill here...) It
seems to be doing ok. I've got it on a P166, 32Mb, running Slackware
3.5. I have noticed that (referring to StarOffice 4, now) in some
installations it would run ok, some would be horribly slow, on
different machines with the same specs. I think one had RedHat, the
other had slackware, but I did not explore the issue enough to warrant
any sort of conclusion.

Thanks to all who provided input.
