MS-Word is a clone of Word Perfect, and MS-Excel is a clone of 1-2-3 (which was
a clone of VisiCalc). Please don't give the beast at Redmond credit as the
creator, he's the one who makes clones (and poor ones at that).

I have used Applixware and find it very nice, no real problems yet. My version
won't import the Word 7.0 documents, but I'm told the newer on will. I use
most extensively Corel Word Perfect 7.0 which is VERY nice and has every
feature you can imagine and takes up about 106Mb. My applixware installation
takes up 223Mb. I use a "free" spreadsheet called WingZ, it takes up 6Mb. It
is an X app and may not have all the latest features but it is very functional
and extremely fast. Have also used the NeXs spreadsheet but found it rather
crippled in comparison.
