Meeting November 24 - Moving from Windows to Linux: Do's and Don'ts
There are basic differences between the pervasive Microsoft operating
systems and Linux, and moving from one to the other presents some with a few
problems. The goal of this meeting is to hightlight some of the differences
between these systems and how to re-orient yourself with Linux if you came
from a Microsoft background. He'll also be sharing some personal anecdotes
about his move from one system to the other, and encourages others to share
their experiences. We hope to promote an atmosphere where we can all share
some of our experience and answer some questions (especially from Linux
novices), which will give us all some insight into making this step forward.
Finally, Chris will present some commonly equivalent ways of performing some
common tasks with Linux that you may know how to do in Windows.
Chris Gidman holds a computer science degree from Purdue University. He
has worked with Pharmacia & Upjohn as a systems engineer for three and a half
years. Some of this time has been spent working in HP/UX and the
various Microsoft OS products, as well as OS/2. His interest in Linux stems
from a desire to publish a low cost database driven web site.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.
During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:
"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."
As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
