Thanks!!

This is a response to Robert G. Brown:

Do you mean add things to the menu?

Yes. Sorry I was not clear. Actually, both the menu and the taskbar.

This depends on what soundcard and kernel you have. Please let us know these
thing, and we can proceed from there.

The soundcard is an SB16. (not pnp) and the kernel is 2.0.34. I have gcc but
can't find bin86 except for doc files. I can try and load it from the CD.

BTW, lilo dies on me and I am booting linux from diskette.
Make menuconfig/config evokes the error "no rule for make"

Thanks to Dan, I can switch modes from 640x480 to 800x600, however, I am
still stuck at 8 bits, apparently.

I did use xvidtune, but it doesn't seem to have a bit level control.

I also do not seem to have xf86setup, but I do have xf86config. If
ctrl-alt-numeric-plus changes the video mode, is there a key combo to change
the bit-level?

I am struggling with emacs as a web browser. It is slow and difficult to
configure. Arena bombs and lynx is usable but won't work with many sites
because of it's text orientation.

I did DL Netscape but that complains of no libxpm.so.4. I do have libx.so.4.10
or some such. I tried the simple way and copied the file with a rename but that
didn't work.

Linux seems to have great potential, but there needs to be some sort of script
to assist in the configuration, preferrably from X. This I see as the major
stumbling block to the strong challenge to windows et al.

I like the system. With what knowledge I have garnered of DOS, Win3.1 and
OS/2, I am not totally lost but the paradigm shift is a bit steep.

To those who responded, I do thank you and hope to become a knowledgeable
linux user with your help.
