Meeting December 8 - The K Desktop Environment (KDE)
KDE is a powerful graphical desktop environment for Unix workstations. It
combines ease of use, contemporary functionality and outstanding graphical
design with the technological superiority of the Unix operating system.
KDE is a completely new desktop, incorporating a large suite of applications
for Unix workstations. While KDE includes a window manager, file manager,
panel, control center and many other components that one would expect to be
part of a contemporary desktop environment, the true strength of this
exceptional environment lies in the interoperability of its components.
The first stable version of KDE has recently been released. Bruce Smith
will give a talk about his experences with KDE and a demostration of KDE on
his laptop. There should be plenty of time for questions and answers about
KDE.
Bruce Smith has worked as a software developer, system administrator, and
now network administrator at Armstrong International in Three Rivers, Michigan.
His network is a heterogeneous UNIX/Linux/Microsoft system, and he uses the
software he discussed here in his work at Armdtrong at Armstrong. Bruce has
been instrumental in making KLUG what it is today, with frequent presentations
and other contributions to the group.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Meeting attendence is important! Coming to three meetings will qualify you
as a full member of KLUG, meaning that you can participate in the process of
making formal decisions, including voting for officers.
During the last week in January, KLUG decided (by vote) to define a voting
KLUG member as one who has attended three KLUG meetings:
"In order to make any group wide decisions during a meeting, at least
7 people must be in attendance, and each of these 7 people must have
been to at least 3 meetings before."
As there are people who are examing how to better organize KLUG to serve a
growing list of people interested in Linux, it's important to be aware of
this so you can be assured of participating in any group decisions.
