Linux on my laptop Part II
OK, here's the update: I downloaded the latest X server for the neomagic
chipset and it fixed the video to the monitor problem! I looked a little
harder at the Linux for Laptops page I previously referenced and followed a
few more links to the answer. Finally found an RPM of what I needed at a
Red Hat mirror. Chalk that experience as hard earned! Thanks to everyone
for their help and ideas.
I also have the NetWare client for Linux from Caldera, but heck if it sees
my servers. Funny thing I finally figured out...you have to have IPX
configured in Linux to see any server running IPX only! :) (Sometimes the
obvious kills you.) Running ifconfig shows me that IPX is active, both
802.2 and 802.3 and both with the correct IPX network numbers, but they are
not seeing the servers. Any ideas?
Well, at least the video stuff is figured out and I can say I have Linux
running successfully on my laptop. The network thing is a network thing
that I'm sure someone somewhere has encountered before, so I'll keep
digging. I just wanted to share the success/resolution with the list and
say thanks for all the help. It's been a great experience toiling with all
this setup. :)
