Linux on my laptop
Well, I've made great strides in getting Linux to run on my laptop. The
network configuration is working, KDE is installed, and the video
resolution is just right (sorta). There's just one more thing that I
haven't been able to figure out.
I have a Dell Latitude LM, P133, NeoMagic video chipset, active matrix
display. I can only run X at 800x600 through the laptop display. If I try
to push video out the port replicator to the monitor (a 17" Acerview 76i),
the laptop display goes to a washed looks-like-I'm-frying-something-bad
white. The Acer monitor gives me a smaller version of the laptop display,
but I can make out the items on the desktop. Can I have it both ways? Or is
this a case of choose one display or the other? It looks great as long as I
want only the laptop display for X.
Incidentally, there is a great web page resource for running Linux on
laptops available at http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ I
think Bruce may have given me this link, so credit to him for the help!
Once I conquer this, I am going to try and connect to my NetWare server
using the Caldera nwclient package. Has anyone on this list connected their
Linux PC to a NetWare network before? Just a side curiousity...
