I'm not sure I understand your problem.

You can install Linux, and/or the swap partition on a logical partition.
I've done it many times.

You can get by with just two partitions.  Root and swap.

Actually, if you have enough memory, the swap partition is optional.
And if you're really desperate, I think you can swap to a file with
a little trickery.  (and only have one partition - root)
