dial up problems
I am unable to figure out what it takes to create a dial-up connection
and surf the web. Here are a few things I think you will need to know
to help me.
First, I know my modem works. I can dial into michnet using minicom.
I have figured out the sign on sequence and modified my chat-ppp0
file accordingly. It looks like:
'' 'ATZ'
'OK' 'ATDT3533500'
'CONNECT' ''
'Host:' 'ppp'
'Login:' 'myUsername'
'Password:' 'myPassword'
'TIMEOUT' '5'
'~--' ''
I think the problem lies in my network configuration. When I
activate ppp from the control panel, nothing happens. Here is what my
network window looks like on the control panel:
Names Tab:
Hostname: localhost.localdomain
Domain: BLANK
Search for hostnames in additional domains: BLANK

All the info that I have in win95 is in there. It seems like Linux is asking
for more info (Hosts and names, etc). I certainly did not put that extra info
in while setting up dial-up networking in win95 and somehow it works.
I have been working on this for a long time. If you could spell things out
for me that would be great, because there is some fundamental understanding
here that I do not have.
Thanks a lot,
