Agreed.  Some of the older utilities will probably not work with 2.2,
but AFAIK all that's required is updating to the latest version of the
utilities.  

The printing bug you mentioned actually (IMO) fixes a misconfiguration
in the earlier kernels--that of the printing routines using /dev/lp1
instead of /dev/lp0, if you and I are referring to the same thing.  

Far more serious, I thought, was a problem that 2.2 had with Netscape.
The kernel gurus patched the 2.2 release so Netscape works, but I
understand the problem is in Netscape, not Linux.  But one can't release
updates that crash one's "killer app."  

If you have a chance, anybody who installs (and likes) kernel 2.2
should definitely send their congratulations to Linus via the
linus-kernel mailing list.  This release represents a lot of work by a
lot of people.  If you're really ecstatic about the new kernel, I can
let you know where to send the beer.
