network cards for home use
I am new to the list, lurking for the past month now. I am a newbie to
the linux world and I am having my share of fun setting up RH5.2 on a
p133, 48mgs ram, ati mach 64, and creative labs awe64. with 6.2 gigs of
space on my drive... and no modem :(
My delima, I want to network my linux box and my windoze 98 machine. I
found a reasonably priced kit in the DataComm Warehouse catalog.
It is a network starter kit from Netgear, with 2 10/100 pci cards, 4
port 10mbs hub and 2 25' patch cables. I know the card will work in w98
but I am unsure if it will work with RH5.2. Going to RH, I did not see
it listed as supported as tier 1 or 2. But going to Netgear, I read the
following:
Supported Drivers:
Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Windows NT 3.5, 3.51, 4.0
Windows 95, Windows 98
Novell NetWare Client for DOS/Windows/OS2 Client32 for DOS/Win/Win95
Server 3.1x, 3.2, 4.x, 5.0
Unix SCO Unix SCO OpenServer Linux
Others NDIS 2.0 for DOS driver for operating systems that require it
(eg.
Artisoft LANtastics) Packet driver for operating systems that require
it (eg.
FTP PC/TCP)
from:

Being the neophyte, I see OpenServer Linux. Am I correct to assume that
it will work fith RH linux? Does any one have any experience with this
particular card/kit? Any other reasonable cards/kits out there that I
should consider instead... it is only for home use.
TIA,
Bill
