Meeting February 23 - Comparing Star Office and WordPerfect
KLUG is pleased to announce that these questions and more will be
addressed and discussed as Dan Downs offers a real world comparison of Star Office
5.0 and WordPerfect 8 at the February 23rd meeting. If you have
been looking for an office application for Linux, this is an excellent
opportunity to research the possibilities.
Support for Linux in the form of office applications received a real boost in
1998 with the release of Star Office, followed by Corel Corporation's announcement
and release of WordPerfect 8 for Linux. Star Office is an integrated all-in-one
software, while the other is widely regarded as the most powerful word processor
on any platform.
Why would a Linux user choose one over the other?
What are the major differences between the two packages?
Will this be even more compelling to businesses evaluating Linux?
Dan has experience with many programming languages, and has been working
as a computer technician for two years. He is currently enrolled at Western
Michigan University in pursuit of a degree in Computer Science Theory
and Analysis, with a possible double major of Computer Engineering. When
he's not figuring out something new to do with Linux, Dan keeps busy with
Alpha Sigma Phi and even finds time to study occasionally.
