Slow PPP

Recently, I setup a machine using a PPP link over a 33.6 modem to the
internet.

Works great when I do 'ifup ppp0'

I'm also using connectd for remote clients to control the PPP link.  That
also works great.  
But when I connect using connectd (which calls a script I had to write)..
the connection is REALLY slow.  I tried to use all the same options in the
Script that the if* scripts use... any suggestions??

No speed problems when I use the if* scripts...
