I think KDE creates a file in your home directory named:  ".Xclients".
It's a text file that contains the name of the window manager that 
runs with startx.

You can either edit it, comment out kde, & insert the WM of your choice.
Or rename the file to something else and let it default to fvwm95.

If .Xclients doesn't exist, try ".xinitrc".  It does the same thing.

P.S.  For those of you interested in demand dialing, KDE's kppp is NOT an
      option.  You must get ppp working the "hard" way for demand dialing.
      Pay attention, cyberace!   :{)
