XF86Config file that resides in either your /etc or /etc/X11 directory sets
what screen color depths and resolutions you are allowed... You need to
configure this file and add additional color depths and resolutions that you
want to use.... man XF86Config can explain what all the sections do.
Another note is that you can force other bpp depths by using startx -- -bpp
16 or startx -- -bpp 32 provided the screen sections corresponding to
these depths are available and configured in the file I stated above.
Another way too is to place a default color depth in the screen section of
the file as well....
