*ack*  upon closer perusal of some of the LDP howto's, i found a page
listing all the fake modems out there, and -- lo and behold -- the rockwell
HCF PCI 56K is about as fake as they come.

crap!  these things should come with warning stickers.  now i don't even
know if i can get a refund on it...
