The $35 is a number I have seen when buying NT client licenses. Where it gets
expensive is the client. You have to buy the OS, and client software. Even
with good discounts NT & Office is pricey ($300). And just getting more
expensive. Office 2000 suggested prices are around $900, where as Office 97
was around $500.
I don't know of anybody that would buy NT as a server unless they have M$
clients. Correct me if I am wrong.
And now that you have to have a license per machine instead of per concurrent
use. Large international companies are sending multi million dollar checks
to Redmond.
As far as I can see Microsofts pricing just keeps going up. I can't believe
that many companies wish to spend $500-$1000 per user, every couple of years
for basic productivity software. Plus a new machine to run it on. Plus
training.
I have yet to find a feature in Word 2000 that I use regularly that was not
also included in Word 2.0.
Anyhow enough rant for now.
