Lag between source and packages

I tried to do my part to help out on this by making a .tar.gz into an RPM, but
something about the process still eludes me. The Debian package format seems a
good deal simpler to comprehend and use; I'm also playing around with ALIEN,
which translates from one package format to another. There's a nice comparison
of the formats at

In any event, once one knows how to make a package, one can easily contribute
to the community by packing up the latest and greatest source and then making
it available. Don't forget to PGP-sign the package if possible, and/or send it
to a recognized official maintainer or mirror site.
