BeOS
i was just wondering whether any of you have played around with the BeOS...
i got this nice little demo cd from them (it cost like $4/5 after
shipping)... anyhow it was funny (at least to me) because they apologized
about the slowness of it as it had to boot off the cd drive... this was
actually before i booted... so i was a little reluctant to play with it
because i thought that maybe i'd dislike slowness... now i have a relatively
fast cd rom drive (32x max) and i booted off of it to play around... low and
behold it was still quicker than windoze... call me shirley because i had
thought that surely if they were warning that the full speed wouldn't be
seen, then it'd seem slow... but then again i've gotten used to the 'speed'
(or lack thereof as it is) of M$ and everytime i boot to Linux or play with
Be i have to remember that speed is relative...
a little about my experience with Be (like you all cared)...it's (Be)
strange... there is a terminal window like in X if you want it... but it is
primarily only a GUI that you get to deal with... it does manipulate
information very well though... i was able to have a map of the stars (3D of
course) running in one window and a game of nerdkill going in another and
still able to wander around quicker than windoze...
all i have to say really i guess is that i'm kinda liking these Posix-like
environments for being able to play on the computer with...
later
