Re: Problems, misquotes, and other folly....
I point out that we have several "grades" of members on this list. We have
the folks who know us only from the list, those who have attended the
occasional meeting, and those who are well-acquainted by virtue of frequent,
regular attendance at meetings. Some of these latter even work in close
proximity. In the case of Bob and Chris, both work at the same company in
K'zoo. Regardless of whether we feel that their tomfoolery was a waste of our
mailing-list resources, it was tomfoolery only. I hope that everyone who's
been with us a while recognizes that we don't snipe meanly at the ignorant
(Bob's about as unignorant as it gets about more stuff than most people you'll
ever met - Chris knows this) - the ignorant we help generously and
sympathetically. It's unfortunate, if this sort of silliness yanks somebody
too hard. I'd like to think that we might take somewhat greater care in the
future to tease one another privately rather than by way of the mailing list,
but it's hard to say whether that hope is motivated by the desire to avoid a
repeat of the "Tom Ross Case" or merely parsimony about bandwidth, my time,
etc.
