3c574 success!
Hi folks,
I did quite a bit of searching in an effort to get my 3c574 10/100 PCMCIA
card to work in my laptop. I was certainly not alone in the Linux
community when it came to this problem. Some had success, but most of the
discussions I followed from archives indicated there was a real problem
with the driver for this particular card. Even the author of the driver
posted a message with a subject line like "Yes, it is broken" when
referring to this particular card. To make a long story short,
I downloaded the latest PCMCIA package from hyper.stanford.edu just before
the meeting last night and brought it with me to try. The date on
the archive was 5/28. Hooray! It worked! Special thanks to Bruce for
coming with an extra NIC just in case. I was so excited to finally have it
running on my laptop, I spent the whole morning running Linux as my office
computer. Aside from a boutique application for my office and the NW admin
tools (which I was able to get to from the other computer in my office), I
really didn't miss Win98.
In other news, I finally have my dynamic dns getting updated as it
should at home. All in all, it's been a fun time with Linux lately. :)
Thanks to all who helped with both of these issues. I'm usually just a
lurker on this list, but when I've needed help, the group always steps up
with some great direction. Thanks again!
