I've got a dual P200 with SCSI and 256Mb or RAM. I don't use it's video at all
but use it via X from an old IBM PS Valuepoint or several NCD X-terminal I got
before they went to the dump.

Ouch!

I'm pretty certain that the character version of Word Perfect is available for
Linux. If not, there are lots of "text processing" tools, altough most fall
short of bieng a real word processor.

It is RADICALLY diffrent from MS-DOS. I think it is easier to learn without
knowing the "other" OS first. "Unix for dummies" is a good book for intro to
UNIX basics and "A Practical Guide to UNIX System V" is pretty good if your
more techno-savvy. There are several Linux specific books, but I haven't every
looked at them as when I learn UNIX/Linux they weren't around yet. Now that
was fun, I did it mostly from the IBM AIX manuals.
