I can bring my laptop to fix your diskette (if that's really the problem).
I have no way to hook an external hard drive to my laptop, if that's what
you meant.

If you move a disk (like from hda to hdb), you need to edit /etc/fstab
before you can boot again.  I don't know if that's already been discussed, 
since I haven't been following this thread that closely.  (and I have no 
desire to go back and read all the messages again :)

You also may have to edit /etc/lilo.conf and rerun lilo since the
"root=/dev/hd.." configuration line overrides the "rdev" command.

If you need to fix your hard drive, go to  http://www.toms.net/rb/
and download a complete Linux system that runs entirely off diskette.
You can boot it, mount your hard drive, and edit your /etc/fstab
or create another boot diskette.  And you can create Tom's boot
diskette from a Linux or Dos system.
