Maybe the best thing would be to start completely fresh on this, because
I think I'm looking in the wrong areas,trying to cure a symptom,not a
cause!
anyway,I checked the scripts, and there's nothing in them, I mean nothing
at all blank so I am begining to think that somehow ppp is NOT set up on
this, The only thing that realy seems to give any indication that ppp IS
working is through linuxconf, networking, which will allow me to set
everything up,and establish a connection with my isp.
BUT nothing else will access,or aknowledge the modem, except for the
term in KDE,and the KPPP setup, which will dial it,and start up the debug
term where I can log on to my ISP,then shut down and reconnect as many
times as I want, but nothing else will use the modem.
I am going through the KDE windows system, almost exclusively. and
KPPP,which is supposed to set up ppp,(at least as I interpret the
docs)will accept all the information, but apparently does nothing with
it.
I have no problem with re-installing the system if it comes to
that, and am willing to try anything at all that's suggested.
I have my old linux unleashed book, and a quarter box of printouts
scattered around, and can't find any references to setting up ppp other
than kppp, and linuxconf in any of them, and I've pretty much followed
verbatim what I did find, and it's not seemed to have helped any.
thanks again! I know it doesn't sound as though I'm looking through the
docs,but I am!
