Seeing as how you've brought it up!
I can't seem to get ANYTHING to use my modem,It will dial, and
connect,IF I go through and do it manualy,(using the term), but nothing
else will recognize it,(netscape prime concern here!) If I dial through
the term, then open netscape,I get an "unable to locate server, check
connection" message (not verbatim),as though the connection is closed
but having played with it for a couple of days it's getting me
frustrated! As far as I can tell I've got everything enabled that has
anything to do with it.
in cruising the web I found a bit of info on getting it straight, but
that doesnt seem to help any. it's something about disabling a lock in
the ppp startup file (not on my home system right now and the actual
name of the file has slipped my mind). I can edit the file, and save
it,but the next time I start it up,the files exactly as it was before I
edited it,as though it's not getting saved.
plus,
one other question, when I shut down (useing halt) it will run through
all the messages, unmounting, shutting down etc, then shut off my system
(ATX),BUT more often then not, when I start it back up again, I get a
message stating that an improper shutdown has forced a check of the file
system, short of never shutting it down,How can I take care of that?
Plus I've never realy introduced myself
My names Ken,I'm 38,and most people call me Puppy, merc on the
boards, and since the net's taken over the name followed. I've been
playing with computers since 300 baud was amazing, mostly non IBM
styles,till the late 80's,I build systems as a paying hobby,and I've
messed around with linux off and on for a few years, but never had as
much trouble with it back then! At home I provide the computers,3
networked here, and two at my real home up north, and my sister
(dragonlady)takes care of the internet access here, up north the only
access is almost useless,so all my internet is done here.
