Some time ago, someone asked about networked sound that would work in the same
manner as X, in terms of  being remotely runnable.
EsounD, and rplay are two pieces of software that seem to fill this order, esound
being a daemon that allows simultaneous play/record to a full duplex card (mine's
not -  it's a  SB16) and  allows network distribution of sound and sound
applications.
