I *think* that's the exact same video card I'm running at work.
It works fine in 24bpp color for me, but I'm running Redhat 6.0.
I suspect you need the latest XFree86 release (or Redhat 6).

Is the partition mounted? Can you read data from it? Can you write?
Contents of your /etc/fstab file? Your mount command syntax?
