/dev/fd0 read-only, the nitty gritty
OK, this is the info. off the machine:
--> Error message while running KFloppy:
"Cannot access floppy or floppy drive. Please insert a floppy and make sure
that you have selected a valid floppy drive."
--> Logged as root, using bash:
mount /dev/fd0 /floppy <ENTER>
mount: block device /dev/fd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
--> And finally, the fstab info.
1) /dev/fd0
2) /floppy
3) auto
4) noauto,user
5) 0
6) 0
I'm not very familiar with the fstab file, but from what I've found in the
man pages, I haven't located a problem. Perhaps I don't understand it or
there really isn't a problem with fstab. I don't know.
Like I mentioned previously though, I haven't had a problem reading and
writing from within Win95 (actually, I used the W95 boot disk to start up in
DOS7, or whatever they call it, and checked it out because I don't have W95
installed currently)
Also, I have double and triplechecked; I'm not making the silly mistakes
with the write-protect tab and such. I have tried other diskettes (the
first two things I checked). I want to format the diskette and I can't even
do that for some reason. I have completely wiped my HDD and reinstalled
Linux and the problem hasn't gone away. I suspect it's the FDD failing
(just a hunch - it's about 5 years along) so I grabbed two spares from a
couple mothballed machines while I was home this weekend. I'll double-check
the BIOS and maybe replace the drive. If anyone has any better ideas, I
would greatly appreciate the advice.
One more question: Will there be any meetings regarding KDE in the near
future? I'm looking forward to coming to some meetings when I get back to
school. I need LOTS of help with LOTS of things (o: Well, Linux stuff
that is.
Thanks again,
Jason
