I doubt the -install option will help you either, 
but it can't hurt to try.

That leaves you with the option of more colors 
(better card?), or lynx.   :{)

Yes, the monitor matters.

It needs to support the resolution, refresh rate and the number of 
colors you plan on throwing at it.  Otherwise it may smoke.
