Okay, I discovered that my mouse was attached to cua1/COM2 and not cua0/COM1 as I had presumed. So, I moved my modem to cua2/COM3 and set the IRQ to whatever setserial told me cua2 should be (I think it was 4.)
Also, while I was digging around in the guts of my PC, I discovered another modem (Where'd that come from!?) and ripped it out. It's probably a 14.4 so I don't want it. (What do you do with obsolete cards anyway?)
Well, with all the conflicts gone and that extra modem outta there, you'll never guess what happened. I got connected at a decent speed with no mouse lockups! What a surprise, huh?
It still took about 3 tries before I got connected. I thought that was kinda weird, so I'm still not convinced it works just right. But a great big thanks for all the help you all provided! I'm happier now.
Finally, I have 3 questions...
Is there a tool which shows me my connect speed?
I configured ppp1 to point to /dev/cua2 instead of /dev/modem because /dev/modem is linked to /dev/cua3. Can I just relink /dev/modem using the "ln" command?
Finally,
What do you mean that isn't three questions?
Chris.
