xterm problem

soome time I wish to su to another user (root) and run an application as that
user but I seem to have a problem when it is trying to redisplay back. iget "**
WARNING **: cannot open display: "  I am not logged in on any other systemthis
only when I do an su.

I can open xterm by typing this "xterm -display :0 &" then initiating the
command from the xterm but that is to messy.  I did not have a problem with
bsware 5.2.  I am running bsware 6.0 now.
