okay... problem...

so i generally don't have legitimate problems, merely hypothetical
questions, but now i do. i got this Packard Bell p166 w/MMX, 16mbs EDO RAM,
2gig HDD, (and a bunch of more stuff) for fairly inexpensive... anyhow i got
it home, hooked it up, started it up, and was startled when i saw that the
BIOS said there was no keyboard detected because i did indeed have one
plugged in. anyhow i opted change keyboards and try again. the very keyboard
upon which i'm typing was plugged in and i received the same result as
before. also the mouse seemed to be detected, but when the computer fully
loaded (i let it just for the heck of it) Win98 told me there was no PS/2
mouse detected, please reinstall and restart, blah, blah, blah...

any ideas as to why the BIOS isn't recognizing a keyboard attached to the
computer? and shouldn't i get a beeping alert if there's no keyboard? and if
the PS/2 port is shot is it possible to rig the keyboard to another port
(serial maybe?) or get some sort of ISA or PCI board with some PS/2 slots on
it for a keyboard?

thanks for any and all help that can be given...
