I want to see a study of how many IT (in the trenches) people actually read
these studies. I didn't read more than a paragraph of the Mindcraft fiasco,
I haven't read most of the other NT vs. Linux stuff, and I can't remeber
the last time "benchmarks" made me do anything other than yawn. I know what
works and what doesn't, I spend between 40-60 hours a week with these
technological wonders. I suspect ALL these rants/studies are merely
marketing noise, not to say they don't mean anything to anybody (CIO's),
but I don't even expect them to have TECHNICAL merit. Some people hate
lawyers, I love lawyers, who I hate are journalists.

WHAT! No comparisons to Hitler, Stalin, or the Anti-Christ (who Bill
apparently knows on a first name basis)? The Linux community must be getting
soft.

I'm seriously interested in "nicer to deal with" in more detail, and not to
knock you down either. I hear this on occasion, usually after bieng beaten
black and blue by some NT package. I'm starting to think someone should
put together a "desktop" distribution, even Redhat is rather server
oriented. With XFCE (window manager), DFM (Desktop File Manager, i.e.
active desktop), StarOffice with ODBC, SANE (scanner support), XSANE (very
nice scanning utility), and GIMP most of my "office" kind of work is
effortless and seemless. Admittadly it took alot of work to get all those
tings together and happy with each other, but everyone shouldn't have to do
that for themselves if someone else has already done it. I'd be confident
taking on any M$ desktop to performane a reasonably complex "office" task
more quickly then my august old Pentium 1 series box.

Cool, and my wife (not at all tech savy) uses an X terminal and
X-Accountant, Star Office, and Xsane with no complaints (at least once she
had a color printer).
