There is another product out there called VMWare (http://www.vmware.com)
that will do what you are talking about with a full version of Linux. 
It creates a "Virtual Machine" on the same partition you are running,
and lets you run a second operating system while still booted into the
first.  It is only available for WinNT, Win2k and Linux, but I would
assume a version for Win95/98 should be somewhere around the corner.

BTW this software isn't free, but they do offer a free 30 day license to
try everything out.
